I’ve always been a big fan of charity shops. When I was younger and dressed in tiny skirts, two-tone cherry red docs and various shades of opaque tights, I loved routing around in chartiy shops of a Saturday afternoon or after school or work. I got a buzz out of looking for the […]

Changing the world from the bottom up
Researchers in Leicester, England are putting time and money into a very special project.
It’s a project that could change lives for the better, save marriages and change office environments across the UK, maybe even the world.
So is it cancer research?
A study into combating global warming?
How to grow your own money in a pot in your […]
Walk like a man
According to BBC News 24, a burglar has been convicted in the UK using evidence obtained from CCTV footage of the scene.
Not an amazing statement in itself right? But he was identified not by his facial features, clothing or hair style, but by the way he walked!
Apparently, Forensic Podiatrist Ian Linane was able to […]
When Nutritionists Attack
In an article in a national newspaper today, ‘nutritionist’ Monica Grenfell launched what in my opinion was a vile attack on a 17 year old girl.
Chloe Marshall, size 16, has reached the finals of the Miss England Beauty Pageant, a pageant which Ms Grenfell has previously judged.
At 5ft 10 weighing 12st 8lb, Chloe has become […]
Who knew Picasso had such a hairy back?
BBC news has today reported that an early Picasso and two other paintings by British artists George Stubbs and Alfred Munnings, have been found leaning against a bedroom wall in a house in the West Country.
Painted probably in 1901 or 1902 when Picasso was in his early 20s, the piece is called Etreinte, meaning ‘pressure’.
According […]
Holiday hangover
I have that, end of holiday feeling.
You know, that, numb, slightly delirious feeling, that fuzzy headed, shaky limbed, achy boned, ‘I need a sleep and a glass of something alcoholic right now’ sort of feeling you get when you’ve spent two weeks,
..alone,
with your kids.
Two weeks of entertaining, cooking, cleaning, creating, and trying to avoid the […]
Lost in Space
Yesterday we went here…
The National Space Centre in Leicester.
It was cold, it snowed, and we queued for over a hour in the cold, and the snow, but you know, I think it was worth it.
It’s one of those places where you really have no idea what to expect, except, you know, space stuff.
Will the kids […]
Animal/Human hybrids?
Does any one else find this really scary?
According to BBC News 24,
“The Most Reverend Peter Smith has advised MPs to vote against a bill which allows the creation of hybrid human-animal embryos for research.
He joins other leading Catholics and Catholic MPs demanding to be allowed to vote in line with their conscience.
But Health Minister Ben […]
The stuff kids say
Miss M (3) has begun saying prayers in a formal way at her Catholic Nursery.
So she’s sitting in front of her Littlest Pet Shop toys, hands joined, head bowed. She takes a deep breath,
“In de name of de Father, and of de son, and of de Holy Ferret, Amen.”
Me: “Erm, I think it’s […]
More Money than Sensitivity
So I’m browsing through a magazine at my mate Rosie’s house.
It’s a kind of highbrow parenting mag that I’m not going to name because I’m sure they make enough money out of the very rich people who must be buying it, without me adding to their revenue. Not that I have anything against rich […]
