…off

assumption: she is witty and well read. most people outside of her inner circle don’t get her jokes. she loves color and texture…she really understands color. even though her clothing is loud, she has a quiet personality. she doesn’t spend loads of money on her clothing, but she has a personal style and is particular about what she wears. she is a loyal friend and doesn’t put herself out there to make new ones. i think she works for herself…perhaps as a graphic designer or designing t-shirts. she went to school to get formal training in her interests, and has now made a career out of it. she really honors her work. she doesn’t have to party all the time, but if her friends propose a night out, she will always accompany them.

facts: this is 27 year old yanneke. she came to new york from the netherlands on an airplane, seeking love, and to reunite with her best friend. she looked at it all as an adventure. her favorite color is fluorescent peach…fitting. she is a performance artist “i cause scenes”. her favorite food is ice cream…and yanneke is both happy and in love. she doesn’t really believe in God, but she does believe in Jesus…ultimately, she believes in people’s imagination. “i don’t believe in God (with a capital “G”), but i do believe in god (with a lowercase “g”).

it’s amazing how so many of the interesting subjects you’ve posted have not been native new yorkers. (not uncommon, but amazing nonetheless.)

    let’s see…
she’s in her forties, but that’s fine because she takes really good care of herself (eats right, exercises) and looks like she’s in her mid-thirties. she’s a a teacher (English or history). she likes texture and patterns. she life philosophy? right supercedes right now. she locked her hair before it became mainstream and “fashionable”, but she doesn’t mind that the hair style has become so popular now.

She is a busy woman with a practical compassion- she will go out of her way for people when she sees it will have an impact. She either owns a small retail store or gallery and puts a lot of energy into networking with other business owners. She is single and is considering adopting. She loves creme brulee.

She looks like if she teaches something @ a local school something like criminal justice or earth science. She may also be a manager @ a boutique or something like that.

Highly educated, radicalized by older siblings that lived through the civil rights movement but too creative to be subjugated by the hierarchy of the Black Liberation movements that bubbled around her in the 70’s. She’s not from New York, but had some relatives there who she lived with when she returned from Ghana to attend graduate school. She was too small to sing opera and though she could barely stomach the shallow small talk of the painting scene, she fell in with some rich Harlemites and began representing up and coming artists in the early 90’s. Now she uses single digit numbers to as euphamisms for bigger sums. ‘It sold for 3,’ she says coldly into the phone as she waits for her panini to be wrapped in wax paper and stuffed into white paper bag.

She is honest. All of her relationships are grounded, as is she. Given the choice between style and function, surprisingly she chooses function. She is an advocate for children in her professional life, though she has none of her own. She and her husband live in a tastefully-decorated, but not overly-styled apartment wherein the music of jazz greats (old and new)is always playing.

I thought teacher too. Early forties. Probably teaching 11 - 16 year olds. I think she’d be a really fun teacher and use humour quite a lot.
